Delhi approves ₹1,789.52 crore AI-driven traffic management system

The Union Cabinet gave the green light to a ₹1,789.52 crore Intelligent Traffic Management System to be deployed by Delhi Police. Covering 42 identified traffic corridors, the project will be executed in three phases across 24 months, with a five-year operation and maintenance period thereafter. It will employ adaptive traffic control, AI-based violation detection and an integrated command-and-control centre to manage congestion, prioritize emergency vehicles and provide live updates through variable message signs and digital platforms.

Enforcement will target red-light running, speeding, helmet and seat-belt violations, illegal parking and mobile-phone use, while also flagging stolen or repeat-offender vehicles. The system will be built by a Master System Integrator chosen via competitive bidding, with technical support from C-DAC as Project Management Consultant.
