Delhi Capitals and Bengal cricketer Abishek Porel denied bail in rape allegation

A court refused bail for cricketer Abishek Porel, sending him to 14-day judicial custody after a medical student accused him of rape and related offenses.

Cricketer Abishek Porel, representing the Delhi Capitals and Bengal, was taken into custody on August 11 after a medical student filed a complaint accusing him of rape, blackmail and additional offenses. Following a medical check, he appeared before the Chinsurah court, where a judge refused his bail request and ordered a 14-day judicial remand. The complainant alleges that Porel entered a relationship promising marriage, later threatened to release private photographs, and was involved in an incident in Delhi on April 2, 2026 that left her confined and weak.

Police have registered the case under 19 sections, most of which are non-bailable, and have been directed by the Calcutta High Court to confiscate his electronic devices. Hooghly (Rural) Superintendent of Police Kunar Bhushan Singh confirmed the arrest and upcoming court appearance. The investigation continues while Porel remains in custody.
