Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper Abishek Porel taken into custody by Bengal police

Bengal Police seized Delhi Capitals cricketer Abishek Porel on Tuesday in Hooghly, linking him to a rape complaint lodged by a medical student. After interrogation, the 23-year-old was sent for a medical test and produced before the Chinsurah Court. The complainant alleges that Porel entered a relationship under the pretense of marriage, later threatened to expose intimate recordings and committed criminal intimidation.

A Calcutta High Court order dated July 14 had directed police to apprehend Porel and confiscate electronic media, including a pen drive already sent for forensic analysis. The complaint also describes an alleged assault and confinement in Delhi on April 2, 2026, though these claims have not been proven in court. Porel, who has played for Bengal and the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, has denied the accusations and awaits further legal proceedings.
