Delhi chief minister tours new Yamuna river cruise ahead of imminent launch
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inspected the inaugural Yamuna River Safari cruise, which is set to begin operations after trial runs.
Rekha Gupta, Delhi's chief minister, led an inspection of the city's first Yamuna River Safari cruise, joining Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra and several bureaucrats on a test ride. The cruise will operate on a 4-5 km stretch between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur, offering a 40-minute journey for a maximum of 30 riders per trip. Passengers will be able to purchase tickets through the official Delhi Tourism website.
Developed under an agreement signed in March 2025 between the Inland Waterways Authority of India and Delhi agencies, the boats feature bio-toilets, safety equipment and air-conditioning, and must be no older than two years. The operator is required to run at least four trips daily, providing a new attraction for residents and tourists along the Yamuna's upstream corridor.
Why it matters
The launch adds a new tourism option and highlights Delhi's push for river-based leisure development.
