Delhi clears 382 locations for electric vehicle charging stations, ministry announces
The Ministry of Heavy Industries approved 382 of 456 proposed EV charging sites in Delhi, Power Minister Ashish Sood said.
The Ministry of Heavy Industries, represented by Power Minister Ashish Sood, confirmed approval of 382 electric-vehicle charging points in the national capital. Earlier, Delhi’s Revenue Department and the Delhi Transport Corporation had earmarked 456 possible locations, which were re-evaluated over the past three months to allocate sites for two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers in line with the Delhi EV Policy.
This reassessment aims to support statutory goals requiring 100 % electric registrations for three-wheelers and light commercial vehicles from January 1 2027 and for two-wheelers from April 1 2028. KPMG has been appointed as the Project Management Unit to oversee implementation, and the government plans to launch a tender for the first tranche of 160-180 high-readiness sites. Officials emphasized that robust, segment-specific charging infrastructure is essential to alleviate range anxiety and sustain the city’s EV transition.
Why it matters
Expanding reliable charging stations is crucial for Delhi’s push to electrify its transport fleet and meet upcoming emission targets.
