Delhi consumer commission orders Jaguar Land Rover to replace defective luxury SUV
A Delhi consumer commission found Jaguar Land Rover India and its dealer liable for delayed delivery and repeated faults in a new luxury SUV, ordering a replacement or full refund of Rs 1.57 crore.
A consumer commission in Delhi concluded that Jaguar Land Rover India and its authorized dealer breached service standards after a brand-new luxury SUV, ordered by Fena Pvt Ltd in 2023, arrived nine months late and exhibited numerous defects shortly after delivery. The vehicle, driven only about 800 km, experienced engine misfiring, abnormal vibrations, and repeated shutdowns, prompting multiple warranty repairs that did not cure the problems.
The dealer also failed to install accessories valued at Rs 98,440 and repeatedly missed promised delivery dates despite receiving an additional Rs 10 lakh from the buyer. The commission rejected the argument that the purchase by a company excluded consumer protection, citing Supreme Court precedent. It ordered the manufacturer and dealer to jointly replace the SUV with a similar model or refund Rs 1,57,59,871 with 6% annual interest, and to pay Rs 2 lakh for delay, mental agony, and harassment, plus Rs 20,000 litigation costs, by October 11, 2026.
Why it matters
The ruling underscores consumer rights for high-value purchases and holds luxury car makers accountable for service failures.
