Delhi Court Convicts Husband for Attempted Murder of Wife Outside Hospital
A Delhi court found Sushant guilty of attempting to kill his wife Pinki by shooting her in the stomach outside Kalawati Hospital in 2018.
In a judgment dated October 13, a Delhi court convicted Sushant of attempted murder for shooting his wife Pinki in the abdomen outside Gate No. 5 of Kalawati Hospital in Connaught Place in November 2018. Pinki, who worked as a security guard, recounted that Sushant approached her while she waited in an auto-rickshaw, asked her to return to their marital home, and fired when she declined. The court relied on her testimony, CCTV footage, and DNA matches from blood stains on a nearby abandoned rickshaw.
Sushant was found guilty under IPC Section 307 and Section 27 of the Arms Act, but cleared of an illegal-possession charge, with that case still awaiting trial. The judge emphasized the weight of an injured witness’s account and dismissed the defence’s suggestion of a false allegation. A separate hearing will determine his sentence.
Why it matters
The conviction underscores the legal system's response to domestic violence and the evidentiary value of injured-witness testimony.
