An Additional Sessions Judge in Delhi denied anticipatory bail for Shubham Tyagi, who runs the Satya Niketan boys' paying-guest accommodation, only days after a multi-storey hostel collapsed, killing seven people—five students and two labourers. The ruling was delivered by Judge Saurabh Pratap Singh Laler at Patiala House Court, emphasizing the gravity of the incident. Police had previously taken into custody Sudhanshu, the other operator, and labour contractor Sanoj, alleged to have supervised the faulty basement repairs that triggered the collapse.
The building, leased by the two partners in August 2025, was situated near Delhi University's South Campus. This event marks the fifth fatal collapse in the capital this year, raising the cumulative death toll from such incidents to 16 and highlighting persistent issues such as unauthorized construction, added floors, aging structures, and inadequate repair safeguards.
