Delhi cuts 4.76 million names from voter list, only 250,000 file Form 6 to return
The Delhi chief electoral officer reported that the draft roll released on August 31 removed 4.76 million voters, while just over 250,000 Form 6 applications have been submitted to re-enter the rolls.
A special intensive revision of Delhi’s electoral roll, launched on June 30, led to a draft roll on August 31 that excluded roughly 4.76 million individuals classified as absent, shifted, dead or duplicate. Between then and October 22, the chief electoral officer’s office recorded 250,754 Form 6 submissions, which include both first-time registrants and those seeking reinstatement after deletion. West Delhi filed the highest number of applications, while New Delhi submitted the fewest.
The Election Commission of India has held around 89,000 special camps since September 20 to help voters re-enroll, and a separate outreach by booth-level officers is verifying missing names on the ground. The claims and objections window closes on October 30, with all applications slated for disposal by November 30 ahead of the final roll’s publication on December 4.
Why it matters
The massive voter-list purge and low re-registration rate could shape Delhi’s future election outcomes.
