Delhi High Court denies injunction, allowing cricket-inspired film Doosra to debut

The Delhi High Court rejected a petition by former captain Sourav Ganguly and Luv Films seeking to block the release of the Hindi drama Doosra, scheduled to open on Friday.

On Thursday, the Delhi High Court refused to halt the theatrical launch of Doosra: India’s Other Freedom Struggle, a Hindi sports drama linked to former India captain Sourav Ganguly. Justice Dinesh Bhatt said no stay would be granted, permitting the film’s release on Friday. The petition, filed by Ganguly and Luv Films LLP, alleged unauthorized use of his name, likeness, and iconic moments such as the 2002 NatWest Series final and a shirtless celebration at Lord’s, violating a contract that gave Luv Films exclusive rights to a biopic.

Senior advocate Balbir Singh represented the plaintiffs, while the defense, led by lawyer Saurabh Kirpal, argued the picture is about a Rajasthan girl inspired by Ganguly and that the producers secured a licence from the BCCI for the cricket footage. The court will revisit the matter on Friday for further arguments.
