Delhi imposes higher parking fees and 50% work-from-home rule to cut winter smog
Starting November, Delhi will double parking fees at authorized sites and require half of office staff to work from home to curb seasonal air pollution.
To address the typical rise in air pollution during the winter months, Delhi officials unveiled a package of measures effective from November 1 through February 28. Parking fees at authorized sites will be increased twofold, with the exception of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation-managed lots, and this rate will stay in place until February 2027. Municipal Corporation of Delhi offices will operate from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., while Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi offices will run from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Both government and private employers must cut their on-site workforce by half, rotating the remainder to work from home. A construction and demolition ban will be enforced from early December to late January, and dust-producing outdoor civil construction will be prohibited from November to the end of January.
