Delhi influencer accused of racial taunts against Tripura tribal youth sparks protests

A video showing influencer Amir Shokeen mocking a tribal youth from Gomati district has led Tripura politicians and student groups to demand legal action and an apology.

A video that surfaced Tuesday evening shows social-media influencer Amir Shokeen allegedly harassing a tribal youth from Gomati district, asking if he is the "president" of a neighboring nation and mocking Tripura when the youth affirmed his Indian identity. The incident prompted Tripura’s chief minister Manik Saha to order the state DGP to coordinate with Delhi police for a thorough investigation. Opposition figures, including CPM state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, demanded a formal apology and a strong deterrent against future insults to the Tiprasa community.

TIPRA Motha’s Youth Tipra Federation lodged a hate-speech complaint, and the Twipra Students' Federation announced plans to meet the Delhi Police commissioner to identify the victim. Shokeen later posted a video asserting the interaction was staged, saying the target was an acquaintance who worked at a friend’s café in Ahmedabad, and offered an apology for any hurt caused.
