Delhi Jal Board launches multi-billion-rupee overhaul of South Delhi water network
The Delhi Jal Board will spend over ₹6,000 crore over three years to replace aging pipelines and expand water infrastructure across South Delhi.
The Delhi Jal Board announced a three-year, ₹6,044-crore scheme to modernise South Delhi's water distribution system. The effort will replace about 733 km of deteriorating pipelines, lay over 600 km of new lines and expand the network to serve twelve assembly constituencies. By adding underground reservoirs and upgrading the total pipe length, the board seeks to alleviate persistent supply gaps and contamination risks in neighbourhoods such as Hauz Khas and Panchsheel.
Smart meters will be fitted to every water connection in the targeted zones, enabling consumption-based billing and leak detection alerts. Officials say the revamp will provide more reliable, round-the-clock water access for residents across an area of roughly 247 sq km.
Why it matters
Upgrading the water network will improve reliability and safety for millions of South Delhi residents.
