Delhi Metro restores service at 45 stations after 25-hour shutdown over protest
Delhi Metro reopened entry and exit gates at 45 stations after a 25-hour shutdown linked to the Cockroach Janta Party’s protest.
A 25-hour suspension of Delhi Metro operations affected 45 stations after Delhi Police requested security measures before a protest organized by the Cockroach Janta Party at Jantar Mantar. The protest called for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to step down over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Restrictions started at 9 pm on Friday, initially covering 57 stations, then trimmed to 45, while interchange facilities remained open except at New Delhi station.
Key interchange points like Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat and Kashmere Gate were among those closed. The DMRC announced that all entry and exit gates and interchange options were fully operational late Saturday, four hours beyond the planned 6 pm reopening. The move restores commuter access across the capital’s transit network ahead of heightened security ahead of the demonstration.
