Delhi police secure Interpol notice and seek extradition of Russian mother who fled with child
Delhi police have obtained an Interpol Red Corner Notice for Russian citizen Viktoriia Basu, accused of leaving India with her son in breach of a Supreme Court shared-custody order, and have begun extradition proceedings through Russian authorities.
Nearly a year after Russian national Viktoriia Basu allegedly absconded from India with her minor son despite a Supreme Court-mandated shared-custody arrangement, Delhi police have secured an Interpol Red Corner Notice to facilitate her international tracking. The police Action Taken Report states that an extradition request has been forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs, to be processed through the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Moscow.
Investigators are also examining the role of a co-accused named Natasha, for whom they have sought details from Yash Raj Films, and suspect another associate, Samir Ansari, may have helped the escape via a jungle route into Nepal. Earlier travel records indicated entry through Birgunj on 11 July 2025, though authorities doubt this route. A separate complaint alleges that Basu and her mother Olga Zhigalina left their home on 13 March 2023, leaving the child behind and exposing him to health risks. The investigating officer has asked for additional time to complete the final report as evidence remains under review.
