Delhi protest triggers widespread train cancellations and delays across northern and western routes

Ahead of the Cockroach Janata Party rally at Jantar Mantar, dozens of trains linking Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai and other cities to Delhi were cancelled or delayed due to anticipated traffic congestion.

In preparation for a mass protest organized by the Cockroach Janata Party at Jantar Mantar on October 10, railway operators across several zones halted or postponed a significant number of services to Delhi. The North Central, Northern and North Eastern Railways cancelled around twenty trains, affecting routes from Prayagraj, Kanpur, Lucknow, Banaras and other towns, with prominent services such as the Shatabdi Express and Tejas Express among those withdrawn.

A traffic advisory warning of heavy congestion around New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations was cited as the primary reason, though the protest context was evident. Western and Central Railways also withdrew six long-distance trains and rescheduled two Mumbai Rajdhani Expresses by five hours, deploying railway police to guard stations. Passengers were instructed to seek refunds and check updates through the 139 helpline or the NTES app. The cancellations come as the CJP rallies against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged vote-theft claims, with organizers urging nationwide participation.
