Delhi records its lowest September AQI in five years, signaling cleaner air
Delhi's average Air Quality Index for September fell to 102, the lowest figure recorded for the month in the past five years, according to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
In September, Delhi posted an average Air Quality Index of 102, marking the lowest monthly figure for the month since 2022. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change noted that the city recorded 194 days between January and September with AQI under 200, the most in the last five years, while only 79 days fell into the 'Poor to Severe+' category, also a five-year low. Average PM2.5 levels for the same period were 69 µg/m³, tying the 2025 reading and better than previous years.
The Commission for Air Quality Management is collaborating with stakeholders to sustain and deepen pollution-control measures. Authorities indicated that these initiatives will be intensified to maintain the upward trend in air quality across Delhi-NCR.
