Delhi sleeper-bus rape case sees 398-page charge sheet filed, citing DNA evidence

Delhi police lodged a 398-page charge sheet on September 18 against sleeper-bus driver Kuldeep and conductor Sandeep for allegedly raping a minor during an August 4 journey from Greater Noida to Delhi. The girl, a Uttar Pradesh resident, boarded the bus thinking it would go to Noida Sector 63, realized she was alone, and was prevented from leaving before being assaulted and dropped near Kashmere Gate. CCTV traces led investigators to a Timarpur parking lot, where the suspects were detained.

Forensic experts recovered semen samples and hair strands from the bus, which were forwarded to the Forensic Science Laboratory. The probe also highlighted 11 pending traffic challans, a broken CCTV system, curtains on windows, and the absence of a panic button or tracking device, noting the accused lacked police-verified employment. The Supreme Court has taken suo motu notice of the case, drawing parallels with the 2012 Nirbhaya tragedy.
