Delhi University suspends law PhD student after video shows him slapping professor

A PhD candidate at Delhi University's Faculty of Law has been suspended and barred from campus after CCTV captured him striking a professor.

Delhi University has taken swift disciplinary action against a PhD scholar enrolled in its Faculty of Law, suspending him and prohibiting any entry to university grounds. The decision follows a Monday morning episode at Umang Bhawan in which the student was recorded on CCTV slapping a professor. The university's Proctor, Manoj Kumar Singh, confirmed the incident and the issuance of a notice under Ordinance XV-B of the Delhi University Act, 1922.

An independent enquiry panel comprising Rajeev Gupta of Chemistry, Vipul Singh of History and Sudha Singh of Hindi will examine the case and submit a report. The suspension is effective immediately, and the university emphasized that the committee will determine any further action.
