Delivery driver tips off police, leading to arrests in $1.4 million Walmart fraud ring

A Walmart delivery driver alerted authorities to a scheme that used stolen credit-card data to order $1.4 million in goods, resulting in six arrests in Arizona.

Police in Peoria arrested six individuals accused of running a Walmart fraud operation that spanned from Arizona to Vietnam after a delivery driver reported suspicious packages. The Special Investigations Unit spent two months tracing a network that used stolen credit-card information to place more than 15,000 online orders, then altered shipping addresses to avoid detection. The illicit merchandise was funneled through two boba shops in Peoria and Tolleson before being driven to California and shipped overseas via U.S. Cargo Shipping LLC. Coordinated raids involving SWAT teams from Peoria, Mesa, Avondale and Goodyear, along with Homeland Security Investigations and Walmart Loss Prevention, led to the seizure of $25,000 in goods, $35,000 in cash and $45,000 in gold bars.

The suspects, identified as Hoài Nguyen Nguyen, Thien Tran, Uy Vu Phan, Minh Ngọc Nguyen, Hie Xuan Le and Hailey Hang Nguyen, face charges including fraud, identity theft, computer tampering and trafficking in stolen property. Officer William Kennedy credited the driver’s tip for bringing the scheme to light.
