Delta Flight 2311 Makes Emergency Descent After Sudden Cabin Pressurization Failure

Delta Flight 2311 from LAX to SLC experienced a sudden pressurization problem, prompting oxygen masks to drop and a rapid 27,000-foot descent before landing safely in Las Vegas.

A Delta Air Lines Boeing operating as flight 2311 on September 6 suffered a sudden loss of cabin pressure while en route from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City. The issue triggered the automatic release of oxygen masks for all 174 passengers and six crew members, and the crew initiated an emergency descent, losing roughly 27,000 feet in ten minutes to reach a safer altitude. Air-traffic control recordings captured the pilots’ request to descend to 9,000 feet and divert to Las Vegas, confirming the masks were deployed.

The aircraft landed without injury at Harry Reid International Airport, where passengers were deplaned and later transferred to another Delta plane. Delta issued an apology and praised the crew’s handling of the event. Passengers shared on social media the disorienting experience, noting muffled announcements and the sudden need to secure their masks.
