Congressional hopeful Bobby Pulido defended a controversial Gerardo Ortiz music video that depicts sexual violence and murder, drawing fresh criticism during his Texas 15th District race.
During a 2016 interview, Latin Grammy-winning singer Bobby Pulido defended fellow artist Gerardo Ortiz’s music video "Fuiste Mía," which portrays a boyfriend discovering infidelity, shooting the lover, then restraining, blindfolding, groping his girlfriend and burning her in a car trunk. Pulido described the content as an artistic choice, comparing it to graphic images that attract viewers in the regional Mexican genre.
The comments have reemerged as Pulido runs for the U.S. House in Texas’s 15th Congressional District, challenging Rep. Monica De La Cruz. Pulido’s campaign has already faced scrutiny over past social-media activity, including links to explicit sites and a mock urination stunt involving Donald Trump’s star, as well as a 2018 benefit concert that featured a registered sex offender. Republican National Committee spokesperson Zach Kraft condemned Pulido’s pattern of defending controversial behavior. The Pulido campaign has not responded to requests for comment on the video defense.
