Democratic House hopeful Krista Perez arrested for DUI, seen praying in patrol car
Democratic candidate Krista Perez was arrested for DUI after a crash in Tacoma and was captured on video sobbing and praying in a police car.
Washington state Democratic contender Krista Perez, the top vote-getter in the recent primary for the 29th Legislative District, was arrested on DUI charges after her truck collided with a parked car on South G Street in Tacoma shortly after midnight. Officers reported that she admitted to drinking a glass of wine, declined voluntary field sobriety tests, and was later unable to provide a usable breath sample, leading to a refusal enhancement.
Video from the officer’s body camera captures Perez telling police she did not understand the situation and claiming she was not involved in an accident. Inside the patrol vehicle, she can be seen weeping, praying, and repeatedly asking for divine help. The incident occurs as she prepares to challenge incumbent Rep. Melanie Morgan in the November election, and state law does not bar a DUI charge holder from serving in the legislature.
