Democratic Michigan House Candidate Scrubs Controversial Past Posts Ahead of Election

In the lead-up to the November race for Michigan's 7th congressional district, Democratic nominee William Lawrence erased hundreds of his own social-media posts that promoted far-left ideas, including the dismantling of police, prisons, the Senate and even a complete constitutional overhaul. The posts also featured vulgar criticism of the nuclear family, calls for open-border migration, and proposals to nationalize fossil-fuel companies.

Lawrence previously attacked moderate Democrats such as Elissa Slotkin and mocked Senator Joe Manchin, even writing a song with hostile lyrics toward the party establishment. After the deletions were reported, he told reporters he no longer supports many of those positions, has let his Democratic Socialists of America membership lapse, and regrets his earlier remarks. Current House Majority PAC polling puts him a narrow two-point lead over incumbent Republican Tom Barrett, who carries a high unfavorable rating. Lawrence blames billionaire-backed Super-PACs for the negative coverage and says he will focus on constituent services if elected.
