Democratic pastor Adam Hamilton challenges Republican incumbent in Kansas Senate race

Adam Hamilton, founder of the nation’s largest Methodist denomination, announced his candidacy for Kansas’s U.S. Senate seat, positioning himself against incumbent Republican Roger Marshall. In a campaign ad, Hamilton grills steaks while denouncing Marshall’s support for tariffs and the war in Iran, saying these issues are harming Kansas residents. He secured 35% of the vote in an eleven-candidate Democratic primary and has recently broken a quarterly fundraising record in the state.

Although election models still favor Marshall, the race is viewed as more competitive than in previous cycles, and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer hinted a national "blue wave" could help Hamilton win. Kansas has not elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1932, making the contest a focal point for Democrats seeking to capture three seats in former Trump-won states to regain control of the chamber.
