Democratic swing-district lawmakers keep Gomez donations amid misconduct probe

Over the past few election cycles, fourteen Democratic representatives from swing districts have collected more than $30,000 from Rep. Jimmy Gomez via his Generation Go PAC, despite an ongoing House Ethics Committee probe into allegations of sexual misconduct. The amounts vary, with Adam Gray receiving $4,000 and several others, including Darren Soto, Derek Tran, Josh Harder, Greg Landsman, Steven Horsford, Dave Min, Pat Ryan, Gabe Vasquez, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, Don Davis, Vicente Gonzalez, Nellie Pou, and Emilia Sykes, each taking between $1,000 and $3,500.

Many of these lawmakers are in vulnerable races after recent redistricting, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which also accepted $35,500 from Gomez in 2020, refused to say whether it would return the money, pointing instead to Republican candidates who have taken funds from scandal-tainted GOP members. Republican officials criticized the Democrats for perceived double standards, while Gomez asserted he broke no ethics rules but acknowledged personal mistakes in his marriage. The silence of the individual lawmakers on returning the contributions has drawn scrutiny from both parties.
