Democrats accuse Nassau County Executive of misusing public assets for Trump rally

Jay Jacobs, chair of the New York Democratic Party, lodged an ethics complaint on Friday demanding that the state Board of Elections examine Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman’s August rally with President Donald Trump. The event, held at the David Mack Center for Training and Intelligence, was billed as an official White House function but, according to the complaint, functioned as a GOP rally promoting Blakeman’s statewide candidacy and other Republican office-seekers.

Jacobs points to security expenses exceeding $1 million and asks the board to assess whether those costs breach the state’s limits on in-kind contributions to candidates. Blakeman characterized the complaint as a “Hail Mary” move by Governor Kathy Hochul’s reelection effort and defended the visit as an honor to law-enforcement professionals. The filing follows a prior ethics grievance over Blakeman’s use of artificial-intelligence-generated political ads. A recent Siena poll shows Hochul leading Blakeman by ten points, indicating a competitive governor’s race.
