Democrats add six new GOP districts to Red to Blue targeting list

House Democrats announced six additional Republican-held seats they will target for the upcoming midterms, joining their Red to Blue program.

In a bid to project confidence ahead of the midterm elections, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee expanded its Red to Blue roster with six new challengers in Republican-held districts: Chris Jones in Arizona's 2nd, Dwayne Romero in Colorado's 3rd, Eliott Rodriguez in Florida's 27th, Teresa Benitez-Thompson in Nevada's 2nd, Blake Gendebien in New York's 21st, and Justin Pearson in Tennessee's 9th. The program promises these candidates additional fundraising, strategic advice, training and staff resources.

This addition comes after the DCCC previously listed eight "Districts in Play" that the Cook Political Report classifies as solid or likely GOP. Republican officials warned that Democrats are inflating the competitiveness of districts while Republicans maintain larger cash reserves, with the NRCC holding $89 million versus the DCCC's $76 million, and the DNC reporting $16.9 million cash on hand and $17.6 million in debt.

Why it matters

The expanded targeting shows Democrats' strategy to contest more GOP seats despite a cash disadvantage before the midterms.
