Democrats Demand Trump Explain Tens of Thousands of Presidential Stock Trades
Senators Elizabeth Warren and Representative Robert Garcia have sent President Trump a detailed letter asking for clarification on more than 24,500 stock transactions made while he was in office.
Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Robert Garcia have delivered a 17-page letter to President Donald Trump, demanding an explanation for more than 21,000 stock trades recorded in 2025 and another 3,500 during the first quarter of 2026. The transactions reportedly produced over $2.2 billion in revenue last year, a level the lawmakers describe as unprecedented for a sitting president. They point to specific purchases, including Nvidia and AMD shares on Jan. 6 and a multi-million-dollar stake in Axon Enterprises on Feb. 10, which they say coincided with related policy announcements.
Trump has repeatedly said his money is managed by independent third-party institutions and that he does not discuss individual decisions, a claim echoed by his son Eric on social media. Warren and Garcia are requesting the identities of the money managers and assurance that Trump had no knowledge of trades that might conflict with his official duties. The White House and the Trump family have denied any conflict of interest, asserting that all holdings are in fully discretionary accounts.
Why it matters
The inquiry raises questions about potential conflicts of interest between presidential duties and personal financial gains.
