Democrats hold double-digit lead over Republicans in latest midterm poll

Emerson College Polling released a national generic ballot survey 40 days ahead of the midterm elections, finding Democrats at 53% and Republicans at 42%, an 11-point advantage that ties the highest level recorded this year. The poll sampled 1,000 likely voters and shows strong Democratic leads among independents (60% to 31%) and Hispanic voters (64% to 31%). Voter excitement is higher for Democrats, and 41% of respondents cite the economy as their top issue, which translates into a 55% to 41% preference for Democratic candidates on that issue.

The poll also notes that concerns about the Iran conflict, jobs and tariffs rank highly among voters. While the generic ballot does not capture individual race dynamics, the margin suggests a potentially favorable environment for Democrats heading into the final weeks before the election.
