Democrats narrow 2028 convention site options to Boston, Denver and Philadelphia

The Democratic Party has trimmed its list of potential venues for the 2028 presidential convention to three cities: Boston, Denver and Philadelphia.

After evaluating several metropolitan areas, the Democratic Party reduced the field of possible sites for its 2028 presidential convention to Boston, Denver and Philadelphia. Delegates visited these three cities along with Atlanta and Chicago, the latter having hosted the 2024 convention, to review logistical details, fundraising potential and other criteria. Democratic National Committee Chairman Ken Martin praised the three remaining bids as exceptionally strong.

The party did not disclose why Atlanta and Chicago were dropped from the shortlist. Party leaders plan to announce the ultimate venue before the end of the year. In contrast, the Republican Party has already selected Houston as the host for its 2028 convention.

Why it matters

The chosen city will shape the political, economic and media spotlight for the 2028 Democratic convention.
