Demolition collapse in Delhi's Karol Bagh kills one worker, injures three

A two-storey building fell during demolition on Pyare Lal Road in Delhi, killing labourer Sheikh Shamshad and wounding three others.

At approximately 11:15 am on a Friday, a two-storey building on Pyare Lal Road in Regarpura, central Delhi, collapsed while a private contractor was carrying out demolition work. Authorities allege the building owner failed to secure permission from the relevant agency. The sudden failure trapped several labourers; police and fire-service responders arrived after nearby residents reported the incident.

Labourer Sheikh Shamshad succumbed to his injuries and was transferred to the mortuary at Lady Hardinge Medical College Hospital. Mohammad Ayub suffered a head wound and a broken right hand and was later moved to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in critical condition, while Sheikh Saidul sustained limb injuries and was admitted to Jeevan Mala Hospital. A fourth worker, Rafik-Ul, escaped with minor injuries. Both the building owners and the demolition contractor have been detained for questioning, and further legal action is being pursued.

Why it matters
