Denmark launches Projekt Y, an AI-assisted news outlet debuting Tuesday

Projekt Y, a new Danish news platform that combines editorial selection with AI-written copy, goes live at 13:00 on Tuesday.

Projekt Y is set to launch on Tuesday at 13:00, offering news that is curated by human editors but written with the assistance of artificial intelligence. According to editor-in-chief Michael Dyrby, editors still select topics, define angles, edit drafts and choose images, making the workflow similar to traditional newsrooms. AI assistants are also employed to scour research reports, press releases and other media for story ideas.

The venture, backed by media support funds, aims to increase the output of high-quality journalism per employee. Its first coverage will span Danish politics, business and global affairs, with a liberal-centrist editorial stance that highlights stories of freedom, community and progress, dubbed “anti-Jantelov” pieces. The platform plans to remain free for readers while generating revenue through advertising, and may later add sports and culture sections. Dyrby, a 1989 graduate of Danmarks Journalisthøjskole and co-founder of TV 2 News, sees Projekt Y as a step toward a more democratized media landscape.

Why it matters

It shows how AI can be integrated into journalism while preserving editorial control, potentially reshaping news production.
