Denuclearization of North Korea omitted from post-summit US-China fact sheet

A fact sheet issued by the White House on Friday following the Washington summit between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping failed to mention the joint commitment to denuclearise North Korea that the leaders highlighted in May. The document only cited ongoing global concerns, including Russia, Iran and the Korean Peninsula, without specifying any dialogue on restoring US-North Korea communications. Chinese state outlet one outlet similarly provided only vague references to the Korean Peninsula and offered no details on North Korea, mirroring its earlier report on the May meeting.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry’s list of eight "deliverables" also omitted any mention of North Korea. The omission raises questions about whether the issue will re-emerge in US-China relations ahead of Trump’s scheduled November trip to China, where he is reportedly seeking a meeting with Kim Jong Un. One outlet earlier reported that Trump has urged his aides to arrange such a meeting this fall.
