Deported Mexican national sentenced to 20 years for transporting minors and child porn
Erik Santana-Garcia, a Mexican citizen who repeatedly entered the United States illegally after deportations, received a 20-year federal prison term for moving a child across state lines for sexual abuse and possessing child pornography.
Federal officials sentenced Erik Santana-Garcia, a 34-year-old Mexican national living in Salt Lake City, to 20 years in prison without parole, followed by lifetime supervised release. The conviction covers interstate transportation of a minor for sexual exploitation, possession of child pornography, and illegal re-entry after multiple prior deportations, the most recent in March 2019. Santana-Garcia admitted guilt in March and was sentenced on July 30.
He had taken a child from Utah on November 10, 2024, intending to travel to New York, but law enforcement in Oak Grove, Missouri, stopped the pair two days later. A seized phone revealed additional child-porn material involving a second minor. ICE and its HSI divisions in Kansas City, Salt Lake City, and Billings participated in the arrest, and ICE said the offender will be removed to Mexico after completing his term.
