Deputy Defense Minister calls for faster, coordinated post-disaster rebuilding in North Sumatra

Deputy Defense Minister Tampubolon urged stronger coordination to speed up infrastructure repair and safe relocation in North Tapanuli, North Sumatra.

Deputy Defense Minister Tampubolon visited North Tapanuli District in North Sumatra to stress that accelerating post-disaster recovery is a shared priority. He warned that without strong coordination, vulnerable sites could impede rebuilding, particularly the restoration of bridges and other public infrastructure. Tampubolon insisted that any development must align with technical standards, local geography and the specific disaster-vulnerability of each area, and that work in protected forests or special-provision zones follow all legal procedures.

He urged the disaster response task force to tighten collaboration among ministries, government agencies and regional administrations to ensure every stage—from planning to implementation—meets regulatory requirements. Beyond physical reconstruction, the deputy minister highlighted the urgency of relocating people from high-risk zones, insisting that new settlements guarantee both safety and continued access to income sources like farms and plantations. He concluded that public safety and economic continuity must guide all post-disaster policies.
