Derby County's prospective sale to Turki Alalshikh collapses after regulatory delays

Derby County disclosed that Turki Alalshikh, representing Lion Sport, has pulled out of a proposed acquisition of a controlling share in the Championship side. The transaction had cleared the English Football League and the Independent Football Regulator, but Alalshikh cited the time required for regulatory approval as incompatible with the start of the season. In a social-media post, he thanked club officials but said the club would remain off the market for now, while Clowes Developments will keep supporting the team.

The bid had attracted criticism from Amnesty International and other human-rights advocates over alleged sports-washing. Alalshikh, also chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority, has previously owned clubs in Egypt and Spain.
