DeSantis publicly refuses to back Florida Rep. Cory Mills in GOP primary

Governor Ron DeSantis said he will not endorse Rep. Cory Mills, who is under a House Ethics Committee probe and faces personal allegations, as the Florida congressional primary approaches.

Governor Ron DeSantis announced that he will not endorse Rep. Cory Mills for the Republican nomination in the Florida congressional primary. Mills is facing a House Ethics Committee investigation and allegations from an ex-girlfriend that he threatened to distribute sexually explicit content, allegations he has rejected. Despite these issues, President Donald Trump has publicly supported Mills.

Several other House Republicans have chosen not to back him, and Rep. Anna Paulina Luna has endorsed Ryan Elijah, one of Mills' primary opponents. The primary, scheduled for Tuesday, is projected to be closely contested. DeSantis' refusal to endorse adds another layer of intra-party tension ahead of the vote.

Why it matters

DeSantis' stance could influence voter perception and affect the outcome of a competitive Florida GOP primary.
