Deshaun Watson calls fan boos during Browns loss disrespectful and personal

Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson said the boos he heard from Cleveland fans during the 31-7 defeat to Buffalo were disrespectful and felt personal.

During the Browns' 31-7 home defeat to the Buffalo Bills, quarterback Deshaun Watson labeled the boos from his own fans as disrespectful and personal. The criticism came after Watson, who carries a $230 million contract and a 2022 NFL suspension, replaced Shedeur Sanders and managed five completions on 12 attempts for 36 yards, also throwing an interception. Watson recalled that the same fanbase had cheered when he suffered an Achilles tear in 2024, adding that the experience creates a daily mental struggle.

He expressed uncertainty about regaining fan support and noted he feels more welcomed at away games. Coach Todd Monken has not announced who will start the season opener in Jacksonville on 13 September. Browns co-owner Jimmy Haslam previously described the team's acquisition of Watson as a major miss.

Why it matters

The quarterback's strained relationship with fans highlights ongoing challenges for the Browns' season outlook.
