Designated premier Luca Niculescu begins talks with PSD, PNL and UDMR

Luca Niculescu, appointed by Nicușor Dan, will meet the leaders of PSD, PNL and UDMR today to start coalition talks.

Luca Niculescu, the fourth candidate named by President-elect Nicușor Dan after three previous attempts failed, begins his first round of negotiations with Romania's major parties. Scheduled visits include PSD at 11:00, PNL at 13:00 and UDMR at 15:30, all held at the parties' own offices. Niculescu has ten days to propose a cabinet list and a governing agenda to Parliament, after which a confidence vote will be held.

He emphasized the need for a pro-European, euro-Atlantic majority and pledged responsible use of public funds, economic predictability and accelerated reforms. The outcome of these talks will determine the composition and policy direction of the next government.

Why it matters

The talks will decide whether Romania can form a stable, pro-EU government after a prolonged appointment process.
