Designer claims Meghan Markle quit his label after mistaken dress return request

Designer Simon Mouret says Meghan Markle angrily ended their partnership after his team mistakenly asked the Princess of Wales’ stylist to return dresses loaned to her.

Simon Mouret, a leading fashion designer, recounts in his memoir that a misdirected request to retrieve dresses loaned to Meghan Markle was sent to the Princess of Wales’ stylist at Kensington Palace. The blunder allegedly embarrassed Meghan, leading her to phone Mouret and declare she would never wear his clothes again. Mouret says he tried to smooth the situation, apologising for the mistake made by an uninformed staff member, but Meghan responded that the incident had damaged her privacy.

He further claims she later appeared in a low-cost replica of one of his designs, prompting him to message her about the irony. Their relationship, which started in 2015 during a Soho House opening in Istanbul, has reportedly been strained since the royal couple’s relationship became public, although observers note she has been photographed in his designs since then.

Why it matters

The dispute highlights the sensitivities surrounding royal privacy and the impact of high-profile fashion collaborations.
