Deutsche Bahn makes summer family ticket a permanent offering
Deutsche Bahn announced that its seasonal family ticket will become a regular product, with sales beginning in late October.
Evelyn Palla, head of Deutsche Bahn, confirmed that the family ticket launched for the recent summer break will be retained as a permanent fare option. The ticket allows a family to travel round-trip and includes reservations on ICE services. Availability will commence in the final week of October, maintaining the terms used during the holiday period.
Palla highlighted that the network’s long-standing neglect means punctuality gains will be slow, noting that many components are outdated and vulnerable to heat-related failures. She stressed that a comprehensive renewal of the rail system will take at least a decade before noticeable improvements are felt.
Why it matters
The move expands affordable travel options for families while underscoring the railway's long-term infrastructure challenges.
