Devon mother with terminal breast cancer celebrates solo wedding in dream dress
Amanda Barnes, a 49-year-old mother diagnosed with stage-four breast cancer, held a solo wedding at Ilsington Country House Hotel & Spa, fulfilling a lifelong dream before her prognosis worsens.
Amanda Barnes discovered a lump in October 2021 and was later diagnosed with stage-four breast cancer, receiving a prognosis that she might not live beyond March of the following year. Determined not to let the disease dictate her remaining time, she arranged a solo wedding at Ilsington Country House Hotel & Spa near Newton Abbot, inviting roughly 30 loved ones. Friends helped locate her dream dress at Prudence Gowns, and she spent the day receiving hair, makeup, spa treatments, and a Sunday roast.
Despite subsequent scans showing spread to her brain, femurs, hips, and loss of sight in one eye, she continues chemotherapy at a Harley Street clinic and has launched a GoFundMe for future costs. A video of the ceremony posted by her friend Lucy has gone viral, and Barnes uses the platform to encourage others to cherish life, family, and friendships without waiting for perfect circumstances.
