DFW Airport to Add Islamic Foot-Washing Facilities in Restrooms

Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport has registered a plan with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to equip Terminal D restrooms with Islamic foot-washing (wudu) stations, targeting completion before the end of the year. The project, filed on July 31, will place one ablution basin in the men’s restroom and one in the women’s restroom, and is financed privately at an estimated cost of $300,000. Officials say the basins will prevent water from spilling onto standard bathroom floors and protect sink counters, addressing safety and plumbing concerns.

The addition follows similar installations at other major U.S. airports, including Chicago O’Hare and Indianapolis, to accommodate international travelers. While some conservatives voiced strong opposition online, activist Ryan Fournier argued the move is about basic airport management and passenger safety, not promoting any ideology. Requests for comment were sent to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, Governor Greg Abbott’s office, and the airport authority.
