DHL cargo jet bursts into flames on LAX runway after landing

A plane-spotting video shows a DHL cargo aircraft landing at Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday night, after which white smoke and flames emerged from its rear tires. Following the front-wheel contact, three loud pops were heard, accompanied by flashes and a fire that wrapped around the rear fuselage as the plane continued down the runway. Firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived to extinguish the burning tire, while air-traffic controllers warned other aircraft to steer clear of the runway.

In the recorded audio, a pilot suggested the brakes may have locked up. Representatives of LAX, the fire department and DHL have not yet responded to requests for comment.
