Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo hit by line drive, exits game but team wins

During a tightly contested game against the Houston Astros, Diamondbacks shortstop and leadoff hitter Geraldo Perdomo was hit in the head by a 93-mph line drive off a Peter Lambert pitch while running between first and second. The impact forced him to be declared out and he left the contest after receiving treatment, though he was not placed in the concussion protocol and remained under observation. Shortly after, Nolan Arenado delivered a two-run homer that gave Arizona a 3-1 lead, and the team held on to win 3-2 despite Perdomo’s absence.

Manager Tony Lovullo described the incident as a head contusion and suggested Perdomo could rejoin the lineup as early as Monday. The win keeps Arizona in the wild-card race, a half-game ahead of the San Diego Padres, as they prepare to travel to Kansas City for the next series.
