Diesel hits $5.68 per gallon, highest since 2022, as Trump urges price cuts
Diesel averaged $5.68 a gallon, the steepest level since July 2022, and President Trump met refinery leaders to push for lower pump prices.
According to GasBuddy, the average price of diesel reached $5.680 per gallon on Wednesday, marking the highest figure since July 7 2022 and leaving it only 13.9 cents shy of the record high. This rise came a day after President Donald Trump convened nearly a dozen small, mid-size and large refiners and distributors at the White House, emphasizing his desire for lower pump prices. At the same time, the national average for regular unleaded gasoline stood at $4.096, a gain of 4.4 cents from last month and $0.903 above the same period last year.
The previous peak gasoline average was $5.034 in June 2022. Analysts noted that the upcoming Labor Day weekend may rank among the most expensive in recent memory for motorists. These price movements highlight continued pressure on the fuel market and political focus on consumer costs.
