Diesel prices in France top €2.39 per litre, hitting a new high

The average price of diesel in France rose above €2.39 per litre, surpassing the April 2026 peak and sparking calls for protests.

Data compiled by one outlet from over 9,000 stations on the government’s Prix-carburants.gouv.fr site show diesel now averages more than €2.39 per litre. This exceeds the previous record set in April 2026 by a small margin. The increase adds to growing public frustration over fuel costs, with demonstrators planning rallies. Meanwhile, the most popular fuel, SP95-E10, is also trading above its 2022 high at €2.17 per litre.

Why it matters

Higher fuel prices affect household budgets and can trigger social unrest across France.
