Diesel Protesters Plan Massive Foot March Outside Parliament on Opening Day

The protest group Dieselbrølet announced a new action for Friday, aiming to gather thousands of demonstrators on foot outside the parliament building in Oslo. The timing coincides with the ceremonial opening of the 171st Storting by King Haakon, the queen and the crown princess. Organiser Jan-Erik Rafoss said the march will replace the previous truck convoy after police blocked that route in April. Former Progress Party leader Carl I. Hagen and Centre Party leader Trygve Slagsvold Vedum are slated to speak during the event.

Dieselbrølet plans to stage a sizable, car-free protest outside the Storting on Friday, the day the Norwegian parliament is formally opened by King Haakon, the queen and the crown princess. Leader Jan-Erik Rafoss expects several thousand participants to march on foot, emphasizing the need for a clear visual statement against soaring fuel prices. The group’s earlier April convoy was largely halted by police, with only a handful of trucks reaching the capital after failing to secure a permit.

This time, the demonstration will avoid vehicle traffic, and Karl Johans gate will be closed for the occasion. Former Progress Party leader Carl I. Hagen and Centre Party leader Trygve Slagsvold Vedum are scheduled to address the crowd, underscoring the protest’s political dimension. Rafoss warned that high diesel costs are hurting both households and small-to-medium transport firms, urging policymakers to act.
