Digital asset firms target sovereign investors at Delhi roundtable amid push for cheaper cross-border payments

A Delhi roundtable will bring together about 50 digital-asset leaders to pitch sovereign investors as India seeks faster, lower-cost international payments while ruling out dollar replacement.

Around 50 digital-asset firms are set to meet sovereign fund managers, pension funds and family offices at a roundtable in New Delhi, organized by the SWFI during the Brics summit. The Brics Digital Asset Round Table will explore ways to connect national digital currencies and fast-payment networks, citing India's UPI and Brazil's Pix as examples, and will examine tokenised investment opportunities in sectors like infrastructure, energy, real estate and critical minerals.

RBI governor Sanjay Malhotra said the agenda includes central bank digital currency developments and the goal of lowering transaction costs. While India pushes for quicker, cheaper cross-border payments, it maintains that replacing the dollar is not on its policy roadmap. The United States has warned of 100% tariffs against Brics countries that try to move away from the dollar, adding diplomatic sensitivity to the discussions.

Why it matters

The meeting could shape how sovereign investors engage with digital assets and influence global payment systems.
